Alfie May has finally got a chance to be one of the League One big boys when big money Birmingham City signed him from Charlton. The Addicks were clear they didn’t want to lose him but the offer from the Blues was too great for them to turn down. Things didn’t go as planned for the Southeast London club last term and despite preseason optimism from both fans and punters alike, Charlton struggled for most of the season yet May still bagged himself 23 goals in 43 outings. The preceding years at Cheltenham, also in League One, saw him score 20 in 39 games and 23 from 46. It’s an excellent record considering that Cheltenham finished in 15^th and 16^th place whilst Charlton ended the last campaign in 16^th place. The Blues are widely regarded as clear favourites for the title in League One and therefore May should find himself presented with many more opportunities to secure that he would have done with Charlton and Cheltenham.

• 2022/23: Keane 26 goals (Wigan 1^st) Stewart 24 (Sunderland 5^th) May 23 (Cheltenham)
• 2021/22: Clarke-Harris 31 goals (Peterborough 2^nd), Wyke 25 goals (Sunderland 4^th)

As you can see, generally the sides that do well in the league have scorer, in and around the 25 goal mark and we expect Birmingham to challenge for the title.
